Just before Christmas Halfords were selling the Garmin Edge 800 Trail bundle (complete with 1:50k OS maps for the whole UK) for £232. £232?? you couldn't even get them on ebay at that price. The best price I could find was around £350. So I bought one to be collected from my local store 30 Dec 2011. When I turned up at the store there was much scurrying around and a red-faced assistant manager admitted that it hadn't arrived - it had been 'lost' in transit. She later called me and said that they had no stock, no idea when they would have stock and would I like a refund. I said I wouldn't accept a refund and gave her a week to sort it out. She called back with a delivery date of 20 Jan. On 20 Jan I turned up to be told that it hadn't arrived...
The following day the assistant manager called me and said that Garmin were sending one direct to the store by Courier on Monday morning. At 11.30 on Monday morning the store called me and I went to collect it.
Now, this may sound like a lot of faffing about but, with a bit of patience and persistence, I got an Edge 800 for a real bargain price. Moral - don't lose your cool, stand your ground and keep focused on what you want.
As for Halfords, well, they honoured the deal and got there in the end.
Edit - Oh and the Garmin Edge 800 - what fantastic piece of kit!
