Hi all,

Anybody got this toolkit http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-maintenance/bike-tools/bikehut-complete-tool-kit and can say anything positive about it?

Been after a basic toolkit. Normally wouldn't be looking at Halfrauds gear but received a gift card for Christmas, and this kit does claim to have a lifetime guarantee. Also, I have on occasion bought some of their automotive tools and they are reasonable quality.

Cheers.

I have one those no problem except the chain tool is not up to much.

I bought their tool kit a while ago, looks like they have updated the tools for newer BB standards but the allen keys are only up to 6 mm so you would need some bigger ones, a pedal spanner and some cable cutters.
Mine are still in use after a few years and have saved me a few bob.

This newer version is much better, ive see it and used it, the previous version was indeed poo.
But there was no lifetime guarantee on the previous one unlike the new one.
They wouldnt lifetime guarantee something thats made of cheese, they like profit too much to be replacing thousands of these

Having worked there you should know that they are pretty good at replacing tools.

I do know that as well. its no quibble on tools

There pretty good at replacing anything if theres the threat of a complaint also, just bought your bike and mech hanger has mysteriously bent in half, chain twisted and fork lockout not working after 1 ride? no problem just bring it back and we will build you a new one lol

yep that happened not long ago

I am still using Halfords tools 20 years on from when i bought them, and for most of that 20 years it was all day and everyday. Good quality, no problems at all, and they have the same guarantee as Snap On. The Snap On guarantee is worthless, they always find an excuse not to replace/repair their crap.

As with any tools, you usually start with an inferior quality "Starter Set" that has all you need, and replace them individually as you need to add or upgrade. Better tools are expensive for a reason, except Snap On.

Regards,

Howard

Just thought I would update this thread having purchased this toolkit.

Overall I would say the quality of the tools is very good having carried out a strip and rebuild of the bike this week. Ok, I haven't used all the tools, but the tools I have used are pretty good. Having heard stories about chain tools easily breaking I was worried about this one but it did the job no bother on my 11 speed chain. The poorest tools in the kit are the generic ones, the screwdrivers aren't great, the Philips driver especially seems to be too large for most screws on a bike. The Allen keys are bog standard but did the job. Had no need to use the bottom bracket tools (mines press fit - had to shell out on the Park Tools remover) but they look/feel like decent tools. With a lifetime guarantee offered I am happy with the purchase.

Cheers.
