Well, despite trying to patronise my various LBS, and rejecting the Aldi stuff, it was my local Halfords that got my money for a second time recently; the first being to buy a helmet, small saddle bag (for spare tyre etc) and water cage. What with their 3 for 2 deal and half price offers, this weekend I managed some bib shorts, Bike Chain full finger mitts and a water bottle for the princely sum of £37.50 inc vat.

Having started cycling again, I am hoping to loose weight and will no doubt buy better gear in due course. I must say I do like the look of some of that Rapha stuff ^_^ ... and I see they have Merino boxer shorts with a padded bum. They might take me back to those "good ol' days of all wool shorts and chamois leather seats! ^_^But as the important thing right now is to "get on my bike" and "out there", this modest kit will certainly do for now.

Used the 3 for 2 deal myself ,£12 for phone calls to sort out their incompetence , had delivery drivers at my door 6 times and eventually got 2 of the 3 items , at one point Halfords wanted me to send back the 2 items as they could not complete the order , one of the items was mudguards which were fitted to a bike.

Yes I think customer service varies; hence people often make disparaging remarks about the store overall. But all my purchases were items actually in the stores, the prices were good, there was a good fitting room in the larger store where I made my second purchase that included the clothing; and the lady I dealt with there and indeed, the guys at the other smaller store in another town, could not have been more helpful. So I can only speak as I find.
