Well?

Mine was probably a couple of years ago and raced to beat the lights, failed but thought f*** it I'm going anyway, saw the double decker bus coming toward me from the right but still thought I could do it. All of a sudden it was turning side on to me at an impossible speed and I came within a whisker of disappearing under its wheels! ;)

Another time I was coming down a hill toward a RAB during a sportive and was all fired up and really going for it big time. There was a 4x4 coming from the right and I thought no way am I slowing! Unfortunately he was probably thinking something similar, if he even noticed me that is, and missed a collision by millimetres! ;)

Heh heh, just thought of a time when I grabbed the back of a lorries trailer while waiting at the lights, a busy junction, a bus behind me. The lights changed and I thought I'd just get a small tug to see me on my way, unfortunately it was a bit too abrupt and I ended up almost falling off into the path of the bus! Fortunately the bus driver was alert and braked in time! ;)

Back to when I was about 13 and the proud owner of my first proper bike, a single speed sit up and beg. I was passing a parked car when an overtaking lorry squeezed me in and nudged my handlebar with his one of back tyres as he passed. I bounced off the side of the car and managed to remain upright, but I must have been within a whisker of being dragged underneath and being a long forgotten statistic by now.

Just thought of another one, but it was actually on a motorbike rather than cycle but I think the title should cover it. When I bought my RD125LC I took it out for a test ride along a local B road, quite straight. Overtook a lorry with the throttle open all the way, didn't quite have the power I needed and ended up having to cut in at the last second into the path of the front wheels of this lorry to avoid an oncoming car! Very close indeed that one!

Nah..me is a man of calculated risks...did the 4x4 vs bike a couple of month's ago - he was on the wrong side of the road - I didn't move until the last minute then slipped by inside (all of a couple of feet)..

When I was in my teens a mate gave me a shot of his racer, I had a Chopper. Going round a busy roundabout I didn't realise how low the BB was, grounded a pedal and fell off in front of a car bringing the roundabout to a standstill.

On the Glasgow-Edinburgh run a couple of years ago I crashed 'twice' within ten minutes.

Aproaching RAB, van in front is indicating right and I make the decision to undertake as I am going straight on. Van changes his mind, puts left indicator on and cuts right across me missing me by less than the width of a fag paper. Lesson learnt

Few weeks ago - filtering by stationery traffic along Broomhouse, to find they're stopped to let a lorry turn off right into the DVLA place there. Lorry has turned off just as I approach so I nip by the still-standing lead car for a clear run on the road ahead.

Just as I'm almost behind it, the lorry decides to quickly reverse as he's not made it round at the right angle into the entrance and almost hits me on his way back.... Real brown-bibs moment.

Lesson - never assume that just because he's turned off in front of you that he won't change his mind and reverse just as you're directly behind. Never doing that again

I slid whilst taking a junction too fast and ended up under a car's front wheels, just as it stopped at the junction.

I once pulled away from a roundabout and very nearly went straight into the side of a car which was still negotiating the roundabout. Most embarrassing, but not as embarrassing as it would have been had I not stopped with, ooh, half an inch to spare.

On Bealach-na-ba Sportive the bloke in front of my had a blow out, I breked and swerved only to be passed on the inside by another cyclist who then forced my out of my line and onto the gravel between the road and rocks - the gravel lasted for about 10cm at most and I rode it at 40mph(ish) for about 50 metres until I manged to get back on the road - a few cms to the right and it was rocks for me!

I made a point of catching the twat and voicing my displeasure! He claimed he was "on a time". Twat. (I made a point of beating him ;))
