went to sign on today:sad: the place is 11 miles away and went using my old mtb. Got there fine in (for me) record breaking time, gave them my autograph and set off again for home. It was pouring down and the brakes just didn't want to know so actually ended up walking down the steep hill ;) wish I'd been on the 'good' bike but it's back in the big city:sad:. Anyway with 5 miles to go the rear end suddenly wobbles all over the place, there's a loud BANG! and that was it, end of cycle. Inner tube split, tyre sidewall torn and wheel buckled. No puncture repair outfit would sort that lot so reduced to pushing the thing home. I guess if I'd had a tube and tyre I'd have kicked the wheel to near normal and ridden home but then this is my first puncture in many years so I guess I was due an 'incident'

Are you seriously telling us that you can't get ANY job ?

I have to be honest here. Rubbish. Stop sponging of the state and get a job - then you can buy a new bike.

All the best with the wheel BTW

You don't think perhaps the fact that job centres and the dole exist is because sometimes people are going to need a bit of help, just for a while? I suggest if you don't know what you're talking about, you shut up until you have something constructive to say...

Bad luck shimano! I don't think I've ever heard of a blow out buckling a wheel before!

wlc1 - thanks for the warmth flooding from you today, makes me feel loads better. Been in full time employment for 29 years continuously before my position was made redundant through no fault of my own. I'm not sponging, if I don't sign on then my NI contributions do not get paid therefore my (admittedly miserly) state pension gets affected. Had an interview yesterday, another next week, I'll keep you posted as you seem such a caring soul.

Well, it's all sorts of folk out of jobs. My sister is a Property Solicitor (commercial) and was made redundant in June, no jobs going, no-one recruiting...nada....... Just been able to get the dole, and has her mortgage protected for now....she lives on her own so no other income to pay the bills.

Hope it works out for you, and get that wheel fixed...!

I have a good MTB tyre knocking around in the garage that you can have if you like. Where are you?

I'd like to apologise. Rude and non constructive comment.

I have just finished a 12 hour night shift dealing with nothing but twats and pissed up chavs and violent drug addicted bastards.

I appreciate that times can be hard and are not always self induced.

Consider me suitably chastised. In future I shall hit myself with a blunt heavy object before I post crap again.

wlc1 - apology really unnecessary but accepted with thanks. If your doorbell rings at 3am DO NOT answer it, that'll mean the 'boys' didn't get my message to come home.;)
Rigid, thanks for the offer, but I have a broken mtb in the garage I can scrounge bits from.
thanks for the support - appreciated.

Bad luck!
Someone in the club had a tyre rip and punctureon the Sunday ride(they were off in the really fast group) so they changed the inner tube and to sort the ripped tyre....
Used the case that was on his mobile phone to protect his inner tube.

Shouldn't you be seeking alternative employment? You and your current job don't appear to match.

Can't she deviate to other depts of Law Foss. - i was in the legal game for a bit and some sols. can

I feel, in this country: their is a lack of competition or companies: its a combination of the providence of the state and the lack of business's to hire

She is trying, but you tend to specialise towards the end of the Degree and on the LLB....means a bit of retraining, but there are few jobs about ! Might be better of in criminal law eh..... not exactly 'reducing' is it !

With the edit to your first post and apologies like that, you have earned my respect wlc1. I hope you have a much better time at work in the future. Chapeau to you for doing that sort of work. I couldn't. ;)
