I don't think that painted lines do much for cycle safety but I love the concept for making a point:

On a side, if a bunch of cyclists can get together and create a cycle lane at their own expense, why did it cost so much for the London super highways?

Unfortunately it is rather more difficult to use guerilla tactics to remove a cycle lane that it is to create one.
