Whats going on here?. I watched a local race in east lothian last week which didn't have any police escort at all, just volunteers driving a van in front of the peleton. Riders were all over the road. Any vehicles coming other way pulled in and stopped. No probs at all.

but most police just want to get racing banned of the open road....


but most of the riders will just go to organising blind races...

We had a well known local face from the Time Trialling World speak at Club Night this week and he also mentioned that the Police would like us off the road which does seem to be the case. Unlike football we do not have pots of cash to pay for the policing of our events.

Road Race in Hambleton was cancelled last week after the Police wanted £2,500 to police the event. Apparently Road Races can fall into the same category as a Rock Festival leading to the high charges for Policing.

British Cycling have now got involved. Can't help thinking that BC could help with funding in the interim whilst things hopefully get resolved. Its not like they are short of a few bob and £2,500 to them is nothing and could well be seen as investing in the future of the sport.
