I ask because I haven't a clue what cranks, changers, brakes, hubs or durreliers (sp?) are allegedly better or worse quality than others. I know I like what I have on bike though, so this is only academical.

So is there a chart anywhere that sort of reads from top to bottom? Maybe like:

SRAM red
Dura Ace
105
Sun tour
Gawd knows

I'm talking road bikes by the way...

Weight wise Dura Ace is about on par with Chorus, and Red - depending on bottom bracket set up - a bit lighter/heavier than Super Record.

Function wise, depends on what you like.

Ooh, I have a Dura Ace crank and durrelia (why can't spell check find this!), I had no idea it was so fancy!

Yup, top o' the range...
But it does depend on what year though.
As it's trickle down tech.
An older DA would be comparable with Ultegra, Ultelgra with 105 etc

Also in the SRAM list, the Quark stuff is not bottom of the line as the list above might suggest as written, it refers to the SRAM power meter cranksets.

Shimano are pretty similar function wise from Dura Ace to Sora, gear change actions are the same, you just get lighter and smoother, more gears, the more you pay.

Campag Super Record, Record and Chorus are essentially the same just lighter and more carbon/titanium parts but gear changing has the same three up, five down action. The sets below are 1 up 3 down I think.

SRAM I've not any experience with but they seem to be very much Shimano compatible just lighter and only last a season.

Just had a look and I have Ultegra hubs and changers.

Not bragging BTW, I had £300 to buy a bike a few weeks ago and the choice was between a Triban 3 and an ex-hire bike from a trusted source, I chose the ex-hire bike and because I trusted the source I hadn't bothered looking up the parts till now.

I'd better pedal harder to justify the hardware
