Hi,

I am planning to do this route, on a weekday if that makes a difference, and have read that the Thames Valley Path isn`t great for road bikes (which I have). I have looked at something called "sustrans" which have a route but can`t find anywhere that says whether it`s suitable for a road bike. I don`t mind riding on roads but ideally looking for decent cycle paths too. Has anyone found a good route for this? Would appreciate any help.

Cheers

Windsor to Buck House then you can ride across the City http://www.cycle-route.com/routes/Windsor_to_London-Cycle-Route-3183.html

In your case, in reverse

I think you'll mostly need to be on road, especially if you want to maintain any speed

I have only ridden the Thames path from Kingston to Hampton court, doable on a road bike but gravelly and potentially busy with people and dogs.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Why not get the train to Windsor and then ride from there on the pleasant roads to the west and north?

The Thames path would be very slow. Less than 10 mph average speed.
I've ridden it from Greenwich in to town and it's a bit meandery and poorly signed. You end up sharing with peds a lot once you get to the sights. Definitely one for a gentle pootle/walk now and then. Don't know about the other side of things.

What's the reasoning for the trip?

Thames Path is a non starter on a road bike. The Windsor stretch I did last week was very overgrown and hard work on a hybrid with 38c tyres. The local roads are pretty good though and once in Windsor there are some lovely place to ride.
