Grease seatpost?

I was wondering if I will need to grease the seatpost of my new bike regularly to prevent it seizing? If so how often and can I just normal bike grease like Shimano grease? I assume that it should be as it came greased new. Its a Giant Connect Composite seatpost.

Many thanks!

What material is on the outside surface of the post and what is your frame made from?

I looked at carbon assembly paste but read that it scratches the seatpost so wasn't sure. I was thinking maybe something like Finish Line Teflon Dry lub aerosol as an alternative?

The carbon assembly paste may scratch the tube a little because it does both jobs - greasing and gripping.

The stuff my local bike shop uses has small granules in for grip.

They use it on all seat posts/frames, not just carbon.

It usually cures seat posts which won't grip no matter how much the clamp is tightened.

As regards seizing, releasing the post occasionally should prevent that.

It doesn't need to be released very often, once or twice a year should suffice.

as above.
if you have a good relationship with your local bike ship, they might just give you a thimble full to try. mine did when my seatpost was slipping and no amount of tightening would stop it

Same here, the bike shop was happy to grease my slipping post.

The fix worked, although I still need to graunch the clamp tighter than my other bikes.

Guy in the bike shop told me someone makes a 27.3mm post, which is only .1mm over size, but enough to make a difference.

A quick Google suggests the post was made by Ragley, but they no longer offer it.
