Hi. I've just been to collect my brand new Cube Nurace gravel bike (£1750) from the shop when I saw it's fitted with a press fit BB. Having had bad experiences with them I've said I don't want it.

They've also got a Terra gravel bike, 2021, same money seems slightly lighter. Bit that's got cup and cone wheel bearings, I don't want them either.

Any ideas guy's, I'd spend a bit more for the right bike. I also don't want Sram, too many bad experiences with my other bikes.

Cheers!

Did you not check the spec or ask the shop about the bottom bracket prior to ordering the Cube?
You really need to do your homework to avoid messing people around!
I hope the retailer manages to sell your unwanted bike quickly.

Considering how particular you are, you would probably be better off building up a bike yourself, rather than try and buy one off the shelf. An off the shelf bike is always going to be a compromise, you very rarely end up with exactly what you want.

I wouldn't want any non-square-taper BB either. Too many stories of frustration and disintegration. And my Phil Wood BB still feels brand-spanking new, after 45 years. But cup and cone wheel bearings worked fine for me for years and years as well, with occasional service.

You could build this up to your spec if the right size

The bike was prepared for me to view, they made it clear there was no pressure for me to buy it, Hargroves Cycles, there very good.

TBH I think press fit BB's are cxxp, I've had only negative experiences with them. Sealed wheel bearings have on the other hand have always given me good service. As I'm spending up to 2k or so I don't see why I shouldn't get what I want, if it's possible.

Any suggestions, any personal experiences of gravel bikes?

Don’t blame you about the pressfit BB.

I have a gravel bike, it’s an oldish Specialized. Steel frame so a bit old school, nine speed and I converted it from flat bar. It’s in dock at the moment until I can find some calipers to replace the squeally ones on it. Was my fave bike as it copes well with the rutted tracks and roads here. Screw in Hollowtech BB.

That does look cool.

They're being very nice about it, I may just see on Monday what they can supply with my spec for around 2k.

are cup and cone ones the ones where you can totally take apart the BB for servicing?
I thought it was donkey's years since new bikes had been sold with those.
