Hi guys.

Just wanting to know where people get there .gpx file cycling routes from the web? I have been using www.cycle-route.com, but wanting to know if there are any better sites available on the web?

I have been using my iphone and an app called MotionX-GPS which suits me dandy.

I use bikehike.co.uk and make up my own routes.

That bikehike is great, thanks for that PpPete and Greg. There was a route in cycling weekly I want to do so I mapped it out using bikehire and converted it to gpx and downloaded to my iphone......voila!

Not seen the ridewithgps or bikeroutetoaster before benb will check them out....Thanks ;)

There's tons of them out there, I use the afore mentioned ridewithgps, garmin connect and occasionally bikely but more often I use the rwgps site as it creates good tcx files with automatic waypoints in addition to simplified gpx routes and detailed gpx tracks.

benb is quite right. I am a roadie and was coming at it from a road perspective.

My personal experience using routing systems that use OSM is that they can take you on overly circulous routes though. For instance using http://www.cyclestreets.net/ on my regular commute, if I route using OSM it adds 2 miles and about 10 traffic lights to my normal route - and misses the actual main cycle path in favour of some residential back streets!

That might just be a quirk and it probably works fine but since that experiment I haven't tried to use it again.

What I like to do is get cyclestreets to auto route it, then upload the GPX into bikeroutetoaster to tweak it before loading it onto my GPS.
