I am using Map My Tracks on my iPhone. I like it but it would be more fun if i knew a few people to follow. What app are you using? I will change if something better turns up.

I have also started using another iPhone app called CycleStreets. Its a route planner. I like it but would be interested if you know of better ones.

I use Cyclemeter for normal cycle runs to log my speed, distance, etc.
When touring I upload GPX files and usually use MotionX.

Do any of these apps offer battery life >5hours for an Iphone? If not what external battery sources are available?

Map my tracks does not seem very greedy for power. It has a few built in battery saving features. I am now tempted to give Strava a go. I will let you know how i get on with it. I will have a day out with it exploring this weekend. You can buy extra battery capacity. Check this out:

I originally downloaded Endomondo as I saw a friend was using it for her running. Was just recommended Strava today and find it great. There seem to be a few of these apps and they all do the same basic thing, charting your progress via GPS. As highlighted in 4F's link the addition of the segments makes all the difference and I can see me getting a little competitive, although I am not going to be topping the tables any time soon.

I did a run yesterday using Endomondo but I managed to export it across no bother at all. So far I have just used Strava itself for the 1 mile commute home. I look forward to putting it to the test on a longer run soon though.

Sure the stats are great, speed, distance and the like but you can get them (and I suspect a little more accurately) on the bike's computer, if you have one. The social aspects are what make it though, that and the maps. I love maps! :hyper:

Following the comments I bought a Mofie Juice battery and tried Endomodo. Distance covered agreed tolerably well with the bike computer but according to the app I climbed about 800m between GTW and the foot of Ditchling Beacon and hit a max speed of 80+kph. Phone battery was 50% depleted after 90 mins. So, time to try another app. Map my tracks will be my next trial.

Well using Endomondo on Sunday it was running for about 3 3/4 hours (with 3 1/4 hours pedalling) and the battery was still strong at the end of it. I was pleasantly surprised. I see you have an iPhone. Maybe that is your problem. Android phones are much better. ;-)

I'd love to find a third-party app which uploaded to both Endomondo and Strava for me at the end of a workout. Anyone know of such an app?

I have just tried the Bike Hub app on my iPhone. Its a sat nav for bikes and uses O/S maps and Cycle Streets mapping.

So far the planning has been good and the battery usage not too terrible. I will try running it alongside Map My Tracks later this week. I suspect it will cane the battery running both apps at the same time. All i need now is a bracket and clamp for my iPhone. Ebay here i come....

P.S ITS FREE!!!!

You should really be getting close to 11 hours use for Endomondo tracking.
Methinks some of the new phones will give 20 hours, both with Airplane mode' turned on.

I cant quite see why the iPhone should be any different.
