Gps position

Having used an android app and now progressing to a garmin 800, I've often thought that it would be a good idea if these devices showed your exact gps position incase of an emergency, either to yourself or you come across an accident. Does anybody know of a way of getting this, especially on the 800 as that's what I now use?

Doesn't the 800 have an option in the settings/units menu to select OS grid reference for location format? I can certainly get grid reference on my old Garmin Etrex.

The Bryton 35 will give it you under save P.O.I. (point of interest), I am sure others will.

Not all Ambulance Control centres can deal with OS Grid References!

Much of the software is now postcode based.

There was a campaign by the Ramblers Association for this to be corrected late last year

Digital selective calling on VHF this is done for the yachties one press on the button sends out a mayday with GPS co-ordinates, maybe one day do it for smart phones, but don't hold your breath

Ive just got a garmin 200

I think when you add a point it does show the grid ref, i am sure it did yesterday when i added a point.
