Got my hardtail ali frame back today from having it powder coated silver, he said it will be a straight silver as you cant have metallic in powder coat ?
It was a clear lacquered brushed ali frame back in 2005 when I bought it but since then the wear and tear and rubbing of cables, drink bottles leaning against walls etc all took their toll and left the lacquer in places very thin and t-cutting went through the surface lacquer and down to bare ali making the dodgy scuffed patches looking like a highly polished mirrored surface which got to me after a while so decided to get the local powder coat / paint sprayers to dolly it up a bit, and I think powder coating is very much a hard wearing paint unlike ordinary wet spraying.
I was surprised on picking it up is is a bright silver as I asked for but it does have tiny glittery metallic dust mixed in which looks great, cant wait to get her all back together with all the new and refurbed parts, should look great when all finished. Did the forks myself in Graphite grey metallic, they were a battered, beaten scratched and scuffed pair of Rockshox Psylo Race which I bought last year for £30 they now look brand spanking very pleased with them....even if I do say so myself.
