Got a phone call this morning telling me my bike was ready
So (back) down to Halfords I went and the chap wheeled the bike out and handed it over.
The rear mudguard was bent. Properly bent too. Must have been done in the workshop.
So I mentioned it, he had a go at straightening it unsuccessfully and then claimed 'they *can* bend'. Well, it was perfect when it went in. So after a bit more playing he seemed fit to walk away but I told him 'it was perfect when it came in, it should be perfect when it goes back out.' and he actually said 'so you're not happy'?
Well fcuk-a-doodle-doo no, I was over the moon, what did he think??? So he went and got a replacement mudguard for me, removed the old one, slammed it down, fitted the new one and off he went.
Out I went and gave the bike a test ride. The rear brake lever pulled back almost all the way to the grip and there was almost no braking at the back. *Not* the same as when it went it, again it was spot on.
I could have taken it home and sorted it out but TBH I wanted them to do it, so back in and collared the same guy.
He told me that they wouldn't have touched the brakes and was like 'yes, that should be true but they were fine before and now they're not braking so can they please be adjusted'. After a little ride in the shop he came back, 'I need an allen key', fixed it, and walked off.
Disappointing... Ok the bike is back and fixed but how did they manage to take so little care they bent the mudguard?
As for the guy in the shop, he had a 'one life live it' bike tattoo, so TBH I was hoping for a better attitude. Maybe he was fed up working there, or couldn't really be arsed to pay attention to my cheapo bike. Or maybe he was just having a bad day or something..
