Sitting here at work this afternoon, and legs giving me grief.

Got knocked off last night. Bloke in a People Carrier doing a U-turn in the road (wide one). He went once, then stopped, a second time, and stopped again, so I thought that he had seen me. Then went a third time just as I was upon him. Hit his wing, came off, but stayed shiny-side upwards - no road contact on anything above my waist.

Bike? Front wheel not good - VERY potato crisp shaped, mainly due to his car coming to rest on top of it.

Me? No blood, just two bruises - one on each leg. One on the VMO, and one in trouser pocket wallet position.

Bloke was VERY, VERY apologetic about it. Kept on telling me to sit down, until I showed him how little damage he had done. Took me and the bike down to the nearest bike shop, and helped out until my bike was fit to ride again.

First time I have been downed by a car for over 10 years, and only the second time since I first started cycling on roads (to scouts - now just short of 40). So please don't take this as evidence of cycling being dangerous.

Oh, yes, and DON'T ask me if I was wearing a helmet. My head did not even come close to hitting anything. It's not relevant.

Ouch! I'm glad you are okay. At least the driver did the decent thing and didn't just leave you there in the road.

Just here.

Blue Rover 400 is just about to pull a U-turn. Except in my case it was a green Ford Galaxy.

Driver phoned last night to check I was OK.

Drivers probably scared that you'll make a claim on his insurance - did he pay for the wheel/repairs?

You really should get his insurance details though, your injuries may not get better quickly and you might possibly need physio etc., have you seen a Dr?

Back on bike two days after. Took the car on the day immediately following the accident because it was raining and the rear mudguard got broken in the accident.
Bruises looking good today, but legs feeling great.

Have taken your advice, mightyquin and now carry a vial of blood from the joke shop should I need to big-up my claim.

Seriously, no injuries, only bruising. Physio, doctor, etc not needed in the slightest. Call me soft-hearted, but I think that the bloke was genuinely a nice person. He phoned me up the following day to see how I was. Was very keen to pay for all repairs, and wouldn't take 'no' for an answer, so we came to a deal.
