I`ve always wanted a carbon road chariot and now have 2K to spend, and it`s burning a hole in my pocket  .

Has anybody spent a similar amount and had a really good buy?? I`ve been looking at the Specialized tarmac SL2 but am not sure, I also like the idea of the "Ribble design it yourself" route, and I`ve heard that Cube are very good.

Please help my brain is going to fry itself!!

If I was in your potition I would buy the Cube, I have both catalogues next to me and they seem to offer better specs for money than the Specialized (although I have a Splesh myself and cant fault them)
Tarmac SL2 Comp has 105 VS Cube Agree GTC Race has Ultegra...
and Cube are extremely light (GTC Race is only 7.9 kg) + bikes colours are just stunning  + is £150 cheaper

Yum!

I know nothing about Ribble.

Thanks Mimi

I did think the Tarmac was a bit down on the spec compared to the others (but still a very, very nice bike). I do like the colours on the Cubes, they really do stand out

I have a specialized tarmac and if i was replacing tomorrow i'd probably go for the same again because i like the fit of the bike so much - however this is obviously a personal thing you might find some other bike more comfortable.

Canyon bikes are very good value for money... they also had a really good sale on during the tour de france last year if you can hold on another couple of months

FDT is in 29 days!
It is all about weather the frame fits u, also spec's are common place because they are so widly availible, maybe something a bit more niech may be somethign to be more proud of?

I just built a Bianchi Sempre with full Ultegra and Shimano RS 80 wheels for less than £2000. If you have the time, it may be worth building a frame up, then you can tailor it to your requirements (I realize this route is not for everyone).

2k is pretty much the most competitive price bracket for road bikes so you've plenty to go at. And as you've seen, there's plenty on offer and plenty of opinions

I've got a Scott Addict. The old man has got a CR1. We both love our Scotts!

Specialized Tarmacs, as mentioned are superb (as are the more relaxed Roubaix models)

Judderz Orbea recommendation is also an excellent one.

In addition to all those mentioned have a look at Lapierre, Ciocc, Canyon, Ridley....the list goes on. There's some gorgeous stuff out there. And at this price point don't settle for less than Ultegra and Kysrium equivalents.

:stop: don't do it  Buy a Cannondale CAAD10 Ultegra, HERE. Yes it's aluminium  but it's actually lighter than virtually any carbon bike you'll end up buying, and you'll have £100 change to get some new bits and bobs, and you haven't got the worry of it turning to dust overnight

[lights blue touch paper and stands well back]

I'd go for the one that felt the best when I test rode it. Provided I was buying it from somebody who was prepared to back it up with a free three month service.

Moda Stretto, is worth a look at as well, I love the wheels on this, they really set if off. List price is 2299, but you can get it at 1999 at various different stores
