Goppy dubbin.

Hiya,
I bought a lovely mid 60s viking hosteller a few weeks back. She's coming along very nicely.
There's a middlemoore saddle on her. Still nice and firm and.in nice Nick.
Unfortunately.
Someone has in the past slathered it in bloody dubbin.
I've scrubbed at it with saddle soap but it doesn't want to come off .
Any suggestions please

I can and I will. He rides a Tomos moped he bought from woolies in 1984. The fool.

If you leave a layer of shoe polish or Dubbin it does go rock hard. Best option is to carefully scrape it off with a table knife.

Wire wool, bucket of soapy water, care, patience, persistence.

I'd use white spirit, it is the solvent used in shoe polish. (I used to make shoe polish as a job)
Not slather it on but plenty of 'elbow grease' and a rag soaked in it should do the trick.

If we are working on the same principle as shoe polish. Put the saddle in a warm oven for a while and it should soften the dubbin and make it easier to scrape off.
