Android only right now, maybe they will add Symbian and others in time.

how much is it actually going to cost you to have your phone connected to the internet for a journey of, say, 100 miles?

at the moment i spend £10 every 2-3 months on my pay as you go. i'm sensing both these might involve a lot more cost than using my tomtom which cost £150 with the UKIreland maps 2 years ago that i don't really need to update?

I pay £22.50 and that gets me unlimited SMS, unlimited data (and I do hammer it), few hundred minutes of calls (not sure how many, don't often use the phone for talking - as weird as it sounds).

The Google app is still not up to much.

What the public REALLY wants is the option of :-

Fastest Route,
Shortest Route

and

Prettiest Route.

For the ladies, 'Quicker than my husband' Route.

My all-you-can-eat is £5 a month with Three.

That said, of course, the fecking thing would be no good if you had to have connection to the network, as I couldn't travel very far at all.

That's where Garmin TOPO does the business.

Hmmm... over £100 and you need a Garmin GPS. Doesn't look like it maps for the flattest route, either, it just shows you the contours of the route you are taking and the reviewers on Amazon don't seem to be very flattering!

How does it Do the business?

With al 'unlimited' tariffs there is a fair use limit. If you routinely exceed this limit they will ask you to reduce your usage and if you don't they can and will take you off the tariff. I suspect mobile phone mapping will easily do this in only a few days use per month.

I've used amAze on my phone for spot checks of where I am and the usage is OK, but for continuous use over a few hours ride the usage is huge. Then you need to worry about battery life!
