I got a pair of Shimano disc brakes that have the goodrige braided hose.

I reckon this will be heavier than shimano plasitic stuff plus it'll scracth my frame, I have no idea why the stainless steel braid is necessary on bikes but .....

So to replace it, I assume I need to buy made up Shimano hose since the bit that goes into the lever can be cut to size but the other end is a factor crimped on banjo fitting?

Correct or not?

I've not had Shimano pipes off but they look like a standard type of hydraulic fitting which you should be able to fit yourself. If you take one end off you'll see the olive on the pipe.

If it is you'll have little olives which slip over the ends of the tube and bite into them when you tighten the nut, just like a compression joint in your household plumbing. So you just cut the tube to length, pop it into the calliper or lever and tighten up the nut, with an olive in place obviously. Make sure the pipe is all the way in and make sure they're tight! Once connected give the pipe a good tug to make sure it's not going to pull out and test the system under full pressure before use. Get some spare olives because if one pulls off the pipe you can't reuse it.

I don't see any need for a braided hose on a bike brake system. It's just fiddle!
