Hi all. I wonder whether I could pick your brains, especially those who are our resident time trial specialists?

Next year I turn 50 ;). To celebrate the event (and probably part of a mid-life crisis - if 50 is still mid-life?) I am planning to set myselves a series of bike related challenges and possibly raise some funds for a couple of charities that do work in MND and dementia (the diseases that took my dad and mum).

One of the challenges I have thought of trying is a 25mile TT but what I would be interested in knowing is what would be a good time to aim towards? I did the Blenheim Palace TT last autumn. It took me just under forty minutes to do 20km. Your ideas on what I could realistically aim towards would be much appreciated - plus any other advice for a newby TT'er.

Thanks in advance

How about evens (20 mph average)? 1:15:00

Tough enough based on your time for 40 km but achievable with a bit of training.

Or, tougher, beating your vets standard time for a 50 year old: 1:11:07 (I think), although that isn't a nice satisfying number in time-trial numerology (under 1:11:00 is better)

About the same age as I was when I started time trialling. I've never done 1:15 yet, but I live in hope.

Good luck!
