Hi folks

Have been trying to do some longer rides recently. Was pleased to manage the Cat & Fiddle yesterday  Really enjoyed it even if the legs weren't quite used to the distance, especially on the way back.

ANYWAY Have been looking for some alternative routes to do with my brother as I'm building up to a longer sportive hopefully. Any ideas? I think maybe two big climbs in a day might be too much at the mo. Am looking for a loop somewhere to bring us back to South MCR. Snake Pass maybe but don't fancy that and Winnats in a day yet!

Sorry for the ramble, any ideas gratefully received

LR

I did a search on Bikely for routes mentioning Stockport and found that there are over 170 of them. Check them out using this link.

Adlington through Pott Shrigley and on through the Brickworks. Drop into Kettleshulme then upto Pym Chair, drop into the Goyt Valley then out by the Cat and Fiddle. Then you have choices. You can descend down the Cat into Macc and back over Alderley or you can descend into Buxton and climb out of Buxton via Long Hill to Whaley Bridge then main road it down the A6 to Hazel Grove. There are loads of variations you could try.

Ride It Like You Stole It!

Loads of routes near Potts Shrigley. You also have Blaize Hill as an alternative to the Brickworks, then a choice of left to Kettleshulme (then Windgather Climb to Pyms Chair) on the Macc Whaley Road, or straight on which gives you two deadly options:- Lamaload or Jenkings Chapel side of Pyms Chair (both 1 in 4 killers).

You could also try the Old road off Cat and Fiddle, and head into Macc Forrest.

If you want to do the Snake, then you have either Winnats or Man Tor to get to Rushup Edge, or climb out via Bamford (long drag of a climb).

If more local, then ride through Mellor, and either head into New Mills, Hayfield, Chunal or head to Charlesworth.

Another good climb is in Broadbottom. Gorsey Brow
