i noticed halfords have come in for a lot of flack of late some rightly so, however i just want to comment on the local halfords in llandudno north wales. been in with my bike few times now and been dealt with by three different members of staff. one called Ade, another mark and the other John i think. each and everyone of them has gone out of their way to help advise me and being a new cyclist this has been appreciated, always curtious polite and appologise if they keep you waiting and thank you for you're custom and thats a rarety these days. so lads i thank you for youre customer services and give each of you 10 out of 10. you will have my custom again.

There's a young lad in the Sunderland store who is superb. He is knowledgable and keen to help out an advise where he can - contrast this with a specialist bike shop in durham (not infinity) where you feel almost apologetic for interrupting their day by having the nerve to ask them anything or god forbid buy something.

Barry at my local store in Kings Lynn is great. He's a een cyclist himself and knows his stuff.

Not sure if this has already been stated. But if all halfords stores are alike, they have an independant cycling section with its own checkout and staff etc. I THINK but am not positive that they only employ Bikers in general (all my mates used to work there for one) And since all bikers, motorised or peddle power look out for there own it usually leads to sound customer service. Unlike anorexic checkout girls at tesco.... If you dont like food why are you sat looking at it allday???

The biggest problem in my local is actually trying to get a bit of service at the check out. The tills seem to be permanently unmanned and you end up standing there like an idiot. When you finally attract the attention of a staff member they will almost certainly insist on going to a different till from the one you were standing at. Then they won't be able to log into that so will take you back to the till you were at originally. Then the prices that come up when the barcode is scanned never match what the price on the shelf said in the first place, so an argument is necessary to get the goods at the advertised price.

The store manager in my local Halfords is also a keen cyclist (raced in the 80s and early 90s).

Doesn't have anything to with the cycling section but, ensures that that the staff he recruits are knowledgeable and cycle themselves.

During normal business hours, there's always someone in the cycle section who knows his bikes. Between 5-8pm, it's hit and miss depending on who's working.

My only criticism is the prices. There's always a sizeable mark up versus other shops for routine accessories.

Go to say that my local Halfords always seems ok. Unlike the well known bike shop in Manchester were I purchased my bike from, on the CTW scheme. Surly staff, pedals not tightened up, slack brake cables etc. Seemed to think they were doing me a favour selling me a bike. Needless to say I no longer use that particular shop .
