Planning to ride a few more audax rides in 2012. Going to start the year with this 100k ride on the 8th Jan.

Anyone else riding it / has ridden it and knows what the course is like or where the route goes?

... just me then?

I've now got the route card through and mapped it. Looks like a pan-flat 60 mile route. Should be a great start to the new year to get the legs moving again. Here's a link to the route if anyone's interested.

There is something wrong with that route if it is supposed to be 103 km - that's only 96.4! Are you sure you plotted it correctly?

You'll have to ride round the block a few times to get your metric century in!

Audax instruction sheets are something else!!! I may not quite have it 100% right. I think I have all the controls in the right place, where I may not be spot on is the roads through the little towns and villages. I'll map one more time before the ride to see if there are some glaring mistakes.

We made the 110 km SITD more like 125 with some dodgy directions and an even dodgier navigator
As long as you find the feed stations Steve who cares how far you go :mrpig:

You need to check the distances between decision points. For example, if the route sheet says 600 metres then a left turn, make sure that you haven't plotted the wrong left turn after 400 metres or 800 metres! Once you make one mistake, it is easy to make others.

Also - check the road names where they are given on the route sheet.

The SITD directions are fine - you just have to follow them properly!

It was the strain of following route sheets that led to me buying my GPS in the first place. I didn't like having to concentrate so hard when riding. I prefer to do my preparation at home and then I'm free to enjoy the rides without the risk of getting lost.

Got all excited when I saw this post as it is almost on my doorstep and was up for it and I have that day off, but when I checked my events for fishing, I am down for a work party doing maintenance work on a pond so I will be away for that weekend fishing and working at same time.

But its that time of year, so expect that what you may plan may not happen due to the weather, so I could end up just sat at home, snowed in, in front of the fire.

Yes there is a risk it will get cancelled if there's snow or ice. Think they'll just run the event a bit later in the year if cancelled.

Looked at the elevation chart on that link and thought 'Pan flat' ?!?!?
Then I saw the units on the height axis

Looks like a good start to the year, Steve. I hope you have a good ride.

Looks like the weather is going to be pretty mild for this event. Think the wind has also calmed down quite a bit now.

Think you can enter on the line for £4, if anyone is tempted.

Just in case you get the day wrong, Steve - IT'S TOMORROW, SUNDAY 8TH JANUARY 2012, AT 09:00!

Oh, and the start is in Thorne - the one in Yorkshire, not the one in Cornwall, or either of the two in Canada!

And - don't forget to take your bike! Or your cycling shoes ...

Thank you gents! I'm embarrassed enough without the sarcasm!

You are right though Colin, I'm bound to forget something. At least I know where the start is now having checked it out earlier today.
