It will be sad if the team does have to close down but it takes a lot of money to keep a team going and htc must consider they are not getting a return on their investment. The dope stories will not help the cause but the absolute glee that so called cycling journalists and cycling fans are ready to go into print on the slightest rumour is also not doing the sport any favours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"The Sport" only has itself to blame, sadly. Years of looking the other way, and occasionally actively covering up by teams and, if you believe the stories, the authorities have eroded the trust of fans to the point that it's unsurprising that they don't believe the pronouncements of the UCI et al.

Want to stop the rumour mill? Provide a credible anti-doping infrastructure within the sport, applied without fear or favour, that ideally is open, and separate from those whose role is promotion of cycling. People don't trust the UCI; they don't trust some teams, and I'd argue that there are good reasons for that jaundiced view of things too.

Anyhoo - it is a worry - if a team that wins as consistently as HTC is struggling...

Good by HTC!!!!

Cumon, it's Goodbye, not Good by.

Read it as it is written, it means that some Good is being done by HTC by getting out of cycling! This is good because it is showing that all this doping is giving cycling a bad name, and shows it is now more difficult to get a sponsor. Hopefully this will make there less of a drug presence in the peleton. Due to us all wanting to see a nice even playing field out there.

Why do people try to read what they want not what is says, so why don't u actually think of something useful to say about the topic instead of reading the forums and trying to up your post count by picking holes in other people's spelling and grammar. There is just no need for it, this is ment to be a welcoming place for every1 and not a place where people are afraid to post due to the spelling Nazi's that are reading their post and making pointless comments about the fact it is wrong! If u had actualy read the post that have been made in this topic, you will have seen that someone has already point out the point they believe that I was trying to say Goodbye, but for some reason you thought it was worth the time to post the same comment again with ur own hint of, look at the idiot who can't spell at the bottem.

To be fair I dont think i have ever seen the word Cumon in the English dictionary? I think you ment Come on, Now come on you can spell better than that im sure, but maybe your just that thick that u can't and im realy sorry that you have no grasp of the english language. Maybe you need to got to one of those special school they now have, I know your 54 but im sure if we showed them your quality of work they would make an exception for you to be able to take some classes.

Let's have a collection and see if we can turn it into "Team CycleChat".

After all, how much would it really cost to run? We could pool all our Wiggle "£5 of £50" vouchers to buy the equipment on the cheap. We could sort out all the maintenance ourselves (I'll do the brakes - last one in gets stuck with punctures). All the helmet camera users can be in charge of PR.

The only problem's going to be deciding which helmet supplier to use

Now the rumour mill is in full swing, and it's possible HTC are reconsidering. Which might mean a little bidding contest for the services of a certain Manxman sprinter.
The cost of running a UCI WorldTour team can vary a lot, but if you want to do the best for everyone (and there will be at least 60-70 people employed including riders), then £10,000,000 a year is not far off. In some cases where a team is effectively state sponsored Astana, Katusha, for example) there seems to be a reserve pot as well, depending on results and possibilities. Hence tey can bid for some very big riders and be able to pay the salary. But they really demand results, and the pressure is high and sustained, bad form is a quick way out of the door at the first chance.
