Mate of mines been on about going to Greyhound racing for a couple of years...nah..never fancied it.
Went last night with work colleagues...awesome .

I never woulda believed it was so popular, the place was heaving and apparently on Friday nights, its even busier.
Nice and relaxed atmosphere, easy to place bets, burger n chips included in your entrance fee of £2...mind if you put £1 on each race, you're going to spend £14 gambling, but what the hell, it was fun. I even started putting reverse forcast bets on.

Drink wasnt too expensive, people relaxed despite the crowds, 90 % under cover to the point i was overdressed and too hot, some youngsters there, a really good mix of people..quite funny was some of the staff walking round dressed as the Blues Brothers (i gather they have theme nights occasionally)

I'm not hooked, but i'll be going again. We were all talking...where can you go, have a drink, something to eat (albeit fast food), a good atmosphere (where despite the drink, it'd be hard to imagine there being any trouble), young and older patronage, men and women and a bit of excitement.

Anyone partake ?

it's fantastic!

The trick is to abandon the warmth of the lounges and go right down to the edge of the track. The dogs are wonderful creatures, honed to perfection.

The traditional trackside bookmakers, working on memory and a grasp of arithmetic that would do credit to an accountant or an actuary, are a real education. I've seen rolls of notes handed this way and that, without a thought of counting them - it's all down to trust. And the odds are better than the Tote.

Been to Wimbledon once - was quite good fun, for a change. Just don't bet on which ever hound is dressed in the Newcastle strip - they never romp home!

Used to to go to Walthamstow.....before they closed it, we used to have a great time.....meal included, waitresses used to do your bets for you. As someone said, drink was a little cheaper and the place was packed..........now is a housing estate!! BUT they had to keep the front with all the lights because the front was 'listed'. The whole family used to go, brilliant night!!

Used to go thirty odd year ago when I was home on leave. Lost a bit won a bit learnt to watch how the Kennel lasses handled the dogs, some times I spotted which ones had clipped claws, which ones were ready to squat or lift there legs etc etc really enjoyed it.

If this thread encourages anyone to go for an evening at the dogs, take a look at the cheap admission offers on
www.2for1dogs.com

We have used that site to get cheap admision to our local track. It's not a bad night out, and if you restrict your bets to £1 per race and maybe win some back on say 2 or 3 races, then the betting wont work out too dear overall. And food and beer are reasonably priced.
