Hi All
I know that I have a road bike, which I deeply adore but I need a bike for winter and I would like to do a bit of off road riding, not anything extreme as I have a dodgy wrist but disused railway lines, dirt tracks and the like as its fun and I miss it.

My LBS has a brand new Giant Yukon, 2010 in my size for £269 which I think is a pretty good price. I am just wondering what the good people of cycle chat think as a MTB is not really my sort of thing.
Thanks in advance all.

As above a good price.

The wife has a giant Revel MTB which is similar, and as long as your not doing real rough stuff (the forks are not brilliant) it will be fine.

Giant frames are good anyway.

I have been riding a giant Yukon with discs since 2008. It is more than happy on light off-road (dirt tracks, railways etc), pulls two kids in a trailer and I have been commuting 300 miles/month on it every summer. Looking to continue through the winter this year.

We went with the Revel 3 in the end. Also the original plan was for me to have the Yukon and Hubby to have the 2nd hand Spesh he had found on gumtree. As it was, the 19" frame on the Spesh was far more suited to me so Hubby got the Revel, which just happened to be on offer, the right size for him and at an LBS only 4 miles away.

We won't be riding on any proper rough stuff, cycleways, bridle paths and green lanes etc. There will be no leaping off rocks or jumping ravines etc I get vertigo on the bottom step, let alone an actual mountain!
