I am thinking of buying a Giant Rapid 1.
The reason I am looking at flat bars is because I have a problem with my neck.
This will be my first serious bike, has anyone got one and is it ok

I very nearly bought a Giant Rapid, as I too suffer neck problems. It is a cracking bike.

However it is still a fairly stretched out position and I found that I was just as comfortable on a drop bar bike that had relaxed geometry.

I ended up with a Specialized Tricross but also tested the Secteur. Both enable you to have variable hand positions as well as having a relatively upright posture.
The only neck problems I have now is if I am on the drops for too long. Otherwise all is well.

Cheers

Do you work for Specialized? Tri-Cross and Secteur salesmen abound on this forum!
Depends whether you believe that potsy chap or not.

No, I don't, but I have a Secteur and a Tricross and I think a few others here have one or the other on the strength of CC recommendations and support for these models.

That said, I also have three Giant MTB's in the garage, two of which get plenty of use (and the third is Mrs Norm's so hasn't been used in 20 years  )

iam in the process of buying a new bike and tried three bikes in three lbs all good rep lbs i might add and all three race bikes came out with differant size frames so in the end went with one that felt best and not even the one that cost the most ,but it did look the best . so test ride them and see what fells best

I too am 5'9" tall and ended up buying the Tricross in a small (52) frame.

Once adjusted, everything feels just right for me, which it didn't on the medium frame.

As always, try before you buy.

Well Woopee,
Got the Rapid 1 last week and it is everything it was cracked up to be.
I ended up with the medium frame which is only a 50cm tube but i suppose the rest of the geometry makes up for this with lots of seat height left.
It rides like any good racer and is very light.Fits me a treat.
I have not had much experience with different bikes but I would recommend the rapid.

Thanks to you guys for the help.
