Giant Propel front derailleur adjustment

is currently beating me, I'm happy with the start stop position screws but cannot get the tension correct, I'm using an unbranded inline barrel adjuster that at maximum adjustment is close but "no cigar" and i physically cannot pull the cable tighter before i start using the barrel adjuster.

My question is are all barrel adjusters made equally and can somebody recommend a brand that has lots of adjustment.

Try screwing the adjuster all the way in, then back it out again a couple of turns. Then, with the chain on the small ring and the shifter set for that, loosen the screw holding the cable, pull the cable reasonably tight with pliers and tighten the screw. You should then be able to fine tune it with the adjuster.
