Hello All

I have got a Giant Propel with direct mount brake callipers. They are Ok but I would like to upgrade.

What are my options?

Any and all advice greatly appreciated.

The ones currently on the frame are Giant direct mount. Ive found they are really cheaply made. They ofter rub on the rim and no amount of adjustment will stop it. I think the the return spring is too weak to really pull the calliper away from the frame.

Probably the cable run. If the springs were inadequate in the way you describe, the calipers would have been recalled.

I have a propel and the caliper's are very good, much better than I expected and equally on par with my Ultegra ones. However the first thing I did was swap out the supplied shimano brake pads for some swissstop pads.

If they're not springing back when you release the lever then as Stonechat said I would check them for crud. I find that because of the placement and close proximity to the wheel the cable that bridges the wheel gathers all sorts of muck. Get a baby wipe on it to clear it if it's filthy.
