As you know, I've been eyeing up a new Giant Defy from t'shop.

But near to me is a Giant OCR on ebay, similar bike for less money thinks I, but I thought I'd ask the collective for your thoughts?

I am also keen to get my first road bike from a shop for all the extra advise etc

My wife has an OCR 3, we have since changed the gearset to Veloce as she did not like the Sora that was fitted as standard. The frame is good. It rides well and I have on occasion used it when my bike has been in for repair. Considering it was a relatively cheap frame, I am always impressed when I ride it.

Noting that the frame is a reasonable one, a bike is a collection of parts and many may be well worn by the previous owner. When buying secondhand, you should make any purchase with the premise that you may need to replace some of the parts and budget accordingly. For example; new chain, cassette and brake blocks should be considered and there may be other bits needing replacement to bring it good order.

Well, managed to get out to view the bike, and all seems good with it (new brake blocks soon, but no big probs).

The reserve on it is £250, and it comes with a turbo trainer and good computer so a good deal, but the lure of a new bike is still lurking!

plus not keen on the colour, a powdery light blue. But may yet place a bid!

....but I do fancy a new one
