Depends on the frame.
If a pure track frame, will be 120 oln and too narrow for a modern rear wheel with cassette.

Hub gears can be 120oln and would fit

But just fit a free wheel sprocket and enjoy the benefits of a SS.

A 3 speed internally geared hub MIGHT be an option (Sturmey-Archer or Shimano), IF the rear is wide enough. If not, as mentioned, enjoy the single speed...

To the OP: I don't know. Looks like it could be fiddly.

I have side mounted wheels on my tadpole trike, and to take into consideration the side loading when cornering, they have 14mm BMX axles.

The side loading may not be as much of an issue for the Halfway, as you can lean into bends. I suspect the axle to be a proprietary type and more beefed up than standard axles, at least at the attachment end.

Perhaps not a good starting point for modding ambitions.

It's not that drastic a change. Specialized sell a geared model, so it's possible.

I think hink it's just a question of how many/which Halfway-specific special parts you need.
