I am looking to buy my first road bike and I have narrowed it down to these two but I can't choose between the pair would someone help?

I'm not being smart here Alex but you really need to try them out.

The one that fits properly/correctly is the one that is right for you, and TBH it may be something else completely once you've tried them.

Welcome to CC though and good luck with your bike shopping.

Defy 4 is a great bike and has better components han the current T3, the wheels being an obvious weak point of the decathlon bike.
If the Defy 4 has a carbon fork, then it becomes a no brainer

Hi I have a giant defy 4, great bike, yes also has a carbon fork, as said before you really need to try them if you can.

The Defy frame is very good, I looked at the Defy 4 before getting giddy and getting the Defy 2. I would go to a store and try them both out though. Have to agree with @Berties that going to your LBS will probably give you a better idea of what suits you. It might be neither of the bikes you've shortlisted

The old Triban 3 isn't readily available any more, so you might be better off going for the new Triban 5 (if you decide on Decathlon). Otherwise what they all said; try them out first.

No substitute for actually riding them and picking the shop that will provide the best service.

When I bought my road bike, I was absolutely certain I wanted a Trek Domane, until I rode the Madone, the Specialized Roubaix and Tarmac, and the Giant TCR and Defy. Any of the bikes on my list would have been excellent bikes, but when I rode the Defy, it fit my body better than the others, and it was at a shop that gives great service and advice. The process took a couple of hours and a return visit after I'd slept on the decision, but I ended up with a great bike and a good relationship with a great bike shop.

You're comparing Milk with Cream, the Triban 7 is the same price as the Giant £599 ish, you should be looking at that and it stacks up much better on the spec, Carbon Fork / Carbon Seat Stays / Tiagra 20 Speed along with excellent reviews, looks good too!

But ride them both if you can and see which you feel better on!
(P.S I have a T3 as my winter trainer and it's a fine bike).
