Hi all this is my first post and i hope it doesnt sound stupid but i would like your opinion on a new bike purchase before i take the plunge which could be tomorrow. The bike in question is a Giant Defy Advanced 1.It gets good write ups in the press and is probably too good for my ability but it is a bit of a dream to own a good quality road bike before i get too old to take advantage of it.Your opinion would be much apreciated.;)

Don't let me put you off here but; have you ever ridden a road bike before and do you know that you will be comited to it, its only that 2,300 is a lot to be spending on a bike to find out you don't like it.

But if you are sure the bike looks good, and you can't go wrong with a Giant in my opinion.

Hi im sorry i should have given a bit of history.I have ridden road bikes for about 15 years but never riden anything as expensive as the Giant and was wondering if they are worth the extra that one pays.

2,300 is alot i was in the same boat a while back although i was looking at less money! You can get very very good carbon bikes for around £1,500 (Specialized Tarmac, Trek Madone etc) and save yourself best part of a grand for accessories as believe me costs od decent accessories to match a decent bike do start to pile up!

Of course if you have plenty of cash to spare then go for it, try it out and dont let anyone stop you!
