Getting faster on Bike for a Duathlon

Hi everybody I've cycled on and off all my life nearly 40 years. The cycling I do has been mainly pootling around my milage. I'm a runner and now thinking of doing some duathlons. Do I just train as I do when I'm running Steady, fartlek and hill sessions. I've tried this before but I struggle with concentration on the bike. I start of well training then I see something a tree, view and I'm back to pootling.

Get mileage in then start to work on hills/sprinting. The more time you invest eventually you shall see improvement. Pootling will only get you so far.
