I am looking for a road bike. My local retailer is recommending a Genesis Aether 30, but i have not seen any reviews of same. Can anyone give me a review of this bike.
Hello saltee, Google it! Plenty of stuff online. Welcome to CycleChat. Actually, your bike is a 2011 model and people who write on here will not have much, if any personal experience of this model. Yet. However, there will be plenty of writing and opinion of aluminium frames, Tektro brakes etc etc and the Genesis 'brand' is well respected - particularly the Flyer, although that has a steel frame. Keep asking questions - it's the only way. and learn the differences between 'tighter' geometry road bikes for example, and the more relaxed look - as you can see in the photo below. No hard and fast rules really - some people on here even ride on bicycles with springs all over the place!
Have fun!
Genesis bikes have a very good reputation and are a elcome change from Trek, Giant Spesh etc. Never heard bad reports only good. My friend commutes on a Vapour and it's perfect for the job.
If I had around a grand in my pocket for a new bike the Genesis Equilibrium would be near the top of my 'test' list.
Buy with confidence.
thanks for the info guys as I was not familiar with the Genesis brand. I use A Trek 7.5 for commuting to work , which is a good bike, but am looking for a road bike to do more mileage . Have about £1200 to spend. Any other suggestions?
Planet X has an offering in aluminium frame - 11 speed groupset too. Don't know much about their alloy bikes but they get a good rap here:
I have an ali bike, a steel one, a carbon, and a Titanium Planet X... as have many of the peeps who cycle together, but that would mean stretching your budget - or buying half now and half later!
That's the same frame as my glorious steed (although they only came in black when I bought mine). Mine's kitted out with a an Ultegra groupset, PX model B wheels and PX finishing kit and I changed the saddle for a Brooks B15 Swallow. It's a nice bike IMO.
At the moment, if I had that sort of money to spend, I'd be sorely tempted by the Ribble Sportive range. You can spec it up to what you want to spend, and it got a great write up in this months Cycle Active magazine.
