Ah but it's 725 steel, not alu, class costs ;) Yes those are 25mm michelins and full sks chromoplastics
I am purchasing a Genesis Equilibrium 20 (2016 model) frameset. I want both 28mm tires and mudguards, but wasn't sure this was possible. Evans Cycles told me this: "Genesis say that it can take 25mm tyre with mudguards and 28mm without. I'd be pretty confident that you could go to 28mm with the correct set of mudguards but nothing exceeding that." They then said that 28mm tires would probably work with SKS Mudguards Narrow Road. Does anyone have experience of this setup (i.e. with a 28mm tire and mudguards)? If so, does it work well and what tires do you use?
Many thanks.

Genesis say the disc equilibrium will take 28mm and full guards, but they only say that the non-disc will take full guards, and it comes with 25mm. My 2011 equilibrium is pretty tight clearance with 25mm and guards - I don't think 28mm would fit, and if they did there would be zero clearance. You might be better going for the disc frame.

For the 2016 non disc frame, Genesis's website says "Generous clearances: We've added a further 5mm to the chainstay length on this years' Equilibrium, improving clearance for both larger tyres and full-length mudguards" which would suggest that there is 5mm more space than last year's model. As to what that means for a comparison against your 2011 model, who knows. I have emailed Genesis direct and will post their answer here. I suspect they will answer that they only guarantee mudguard compatibility for 25mm tires, let's wait and see...

Vickster, out of interest, how much do you weigh, what PSI do you set the tires to and how soft/firm does the ride feel?
Too much. 100psi. Ride comfortable on dreadful surfaces. 23mm Vittoria Rubino pro slick tyres

How close are the brake blocks to the bottom on the slot in the brake arm?
The Genesis 20 has 47-60mm drop brakes.
I've got 28mm + mudguards with my 57mm drop brakes right at the bottom. Clearance is adequate but not generous, with Gatorskin or GP4S 28s, which are a bit undersized (actual 27 mm).
