Picked up a couple of gels at ALDI yesterday to see what all the fuss is about. Less than a pound each, although I'm not expecting much.

Just looking at those makes my teeth itch! Good luck, might be an idea trying the first one while stationary just in case.

They're OK as a quick convenient energy boost but consistency is a bit thicker than some other brands. I don't mind them as they do the job but if you are a bit squeamish they are a bit like I'd imagine snot to be

Dextrose tablets do much the same thing, are cheaper, lighter, easier to use, nicer to eat/add to drink bottle and non-sticky. You also don't have a lot of packaging to dispose of. Gels are the work of STAN .... and marketing departments .....

I took some on my ride on saturday, took a detour to my Mums for cottage pie instead. Like dwarf bread, you can go miles on the stuff just by looking at it...

I have been carrying around the same emergency gel in my saddlebag for 8 years now. It is still pliable, but I am not sure what it will do to me if I actually consume it. IIRC it is peach flavour, so I am not expecting much.
