Hi all, new to this forum but have been on others.

I have just bought a Elite crono hydro-mag elastogel trainer, easy to set up and really good so i thought.

I have put a small cadence/speed computer on the bike as well but i have issues.

When pedalling with all my might i cannot get the speed to rise much above 10 mph? you cannot change the resistance on this model as the resistance is changed by the weight of the rider and also what ever gear you are in on the bike.

Can anyone help me to work out why i cannot get the speed above 10 mph.

Upon doing research i thought the point of this trainer was to mimmick the road or is it supposed to mimmick and constant gradient, so when it comes to riding on the road you can then go so much quicker?

Please help.

Can you adjust the tension of the roller to the tyre?

Sorry i have made a mistake i infact have the Elite Crono Fluid Elastogel trainer, the one where there is no tension adjustment on the roller.

Just as a bit more information I am using a boardman hybrid with 700c wheels.

Hi,

I have that trainer and the Boardman hybrid and it all works fine. It did take me a while to get into using the trainer but can maintain a steady 16mph without too much trouble. make sure you haven't overtightened the trainer on the back wheel and that the bike is level. Not really much else to set up with these.

Hi there, don't mean to sound stupid, but how do you overtighten the trainer on the back wheel? i have a block under the front wheel keeping it level so that is ok.

i just don't understand why i cannot keep a higher pace going, it is quite frustrating really.

Is the wheel size set correctly on the computer? What tyres are you using? What pressure are the tyres at?

Ultimately though, what difference does it make what speed you're travelling at on a turbo? Provided there's enough resistance for you to ride at the intensity you want to ride at then surely that's all you need. Turbo speed does not necessarily mean anything compared to your road speed.

I'm sure folk can go faster but I've had my turbo up at 57.7mph, I can't go anything like that even on a steep long hill. 57.7mph or an inch in 1/2 an hour

It was the only thing I could think of

. It sounds like you are doing everything right. Keep at it, when I first got mine my average speed was about 12mph, now I can keep it at around 15mph for an hour on the trainer. It is definitely a different feel than on the road.

On a lot of turbo's you adjust the roller against the tyre when setting up, I take it from what you say this is not the case on yours.
