Common issue I'm guessing. Started tinkering around with my gears and now just can't seem to get them right. What I don't understand is on the rear cassette when I get the gears running smoothly using the barrel adjustment going from small cog to large it doesn't run smoothly going back the other way. I keep adjusting but but just can't get it right. I've watched numerous videos but there must be something I'm missing????

Cheers - very helpful. I was brave and disconnected the cables and started again. Things looking and more importantly sounding a lot better. I've got the bikes first service coming up soon but need to get it through the Cambridge 100 this Sunday. Thanks again for your help!

Yes, treat yourself to a new cable, fettling is much more fun when you KNOW that the parts are good..

The bikes only 3 weeks old so think its definitely user error i'm afraid. Although a good clean and oil isn't going to hurt.
If its only three weeks old I'd be checking that the cable is in the correct position under the clamp at the rear mech. It's not unknown for them to be fitted the wrong side of the bolt.....
That would give you the same problem. Again if the bikes that new you'd expect to adjust the gear change as everything settles in. Most times the place you bought it (unless an online purchase) will be happy to check it over.

I think I'm there. Rear cable wasn't attached properly plus b screw needed loosening right off. Thanks for the great advice!!!
