and really hacking me off !
Brand new defy 5 and been back to the shop twice to sort out the slipping . I called for the six week free service to be told to leave it a few weeks ( I have and tightened cables myself )
Tonight the gears slipped and my left bollock is now in my chin !
I feel the place I bought the bike from is messing me around so I have three options as I see it .
Take the bike back to let them not deal with it again .
Take it to the Giant store and pay for them to get it running properly .
Deal with it myself and break it good .
I feel I should deal with it myself but I know what I do with metal stuff . I break it :shy:
Is it a case of these things always need tweaking or am I right to be hacked off that its not working right ?
The whole point of buying the defy and spending the extra few hundred quid was so I didn't have to put up with this shoot !

If its brand new and assuming you havn't damaged the mech and adjusting the cable hasn't sorted it take it back and get it sorted.

Giant Defy's don't suffer gear slips from new. Have heard of none here. Take it back and say last chance to fix or money back

Hmmmmm Its slipping on about the third or fourth cogs and the vid posted suggests cable slack . I will adjust the cable and try again as I don't want to look like a nobber that cant adjust a simple cable but im pretty sure I shouldn't have to be doing this on a brand new bike .
Im not one to kick up a fuss though so I will have a little play .

These things happen with bikes and gears. It's really nothing to get upset about.

Watch the video posted a couple of times then have ago. It really is simple to adjust.

new bikes are unused and new things settle in ie cable stretch so thats why after 6 weeks most lbs service them so just tweak it i used to be same as you worried about breaking but now do 90% my own tweaks

Thanks for the input . I had a tweak about today and after getting one of these gizmos from Halfords

I found the job a lot easier . The front derailer was the toughest one to get right . There is still a small amount of chain rub in first gear but it was either at that end or the other so first gear lost .

I found the culprit tonight as I was still getting slippage . A tiny bit of straw had wrapped its self around the cogs . Dirty as hell and although I had noticed it I assumed it was some kind of spacer leaf spring :shy: The LBS missed it twice aswell so I don't feel to much of a nobber although I know I really am

Go and kick up a fuss. Having been turned away for your 6 week service you should go right back and say "I want my free service".
If they won't service your bike and sort the problem, reject the bike and go elsewhere and buy another one.

I have never had an issue with my Defy and I have found the Giant peeps that I have spoken to to be wonderful. You just have a wrong'un I reckon.

To be fair to the LBS I think they said leave it a while as they want to deal with my issues when I have really bedded the bike in rather than keeping Jo public happy . Not that I ride as much as you guys but its a little more than nipping to the shop now and then .
Its running sweet now and I have learnt how to tweak :becool: Im surprised they missed the object to be honest but driving past their other store today I noticed a sign asking for a bike mechanic in the store I bought the bike from so I guess it was the manager sorting my issue ..... ?
I will see in the morning if I have sorted it .........

Back from the LBS and running sweet again . I notice the screw at the back of the rear derailer has been driven home . I'm hoping this is a locking screw and will explain why things kept going out of adjustment ?
