Gears from 14 speed to 21 or more

I want more gears i currently have a 14 speed racing bike what would i need for this change.

I guess you have a 7 speed freehub and a double chainring. Changing the chainring at the front to a tripple would give you 21 though you would need a tripple chainset, new bottom bracket, and probably new front and rear mech. To go further (ie to a casette of 8 - 10 speeds or 11 even) would require new hub/rear wheel, new shifters (unless you have friction shifters) new chain and possibly new rear mech.

Expensive whichever way you look at it, but if the frames a good one.....

What rings and sprockets do you have?

Are you looking for lower gears? Are you looking for higher gears?

Which two adjacent gears do you use the most?

What is your 'normal' riding speed ( on the flat, no breeze )?
