Gearing-a newbie question

Sorry if this sounds vague or stupid but I have a question about gearing.

I have a Boss Equipe 14 gear road bike and was behind a couple lads on MTBs the other day. Their gears seemed to be far lower than mine when climbing, and with only being out cycling for about 4 weeks I could do with lower gears as I live in a hilly part of the country.

If I were to buy a Specialised Allez Sport 27 gear triple would I find the extra gearing I'm after?

More than likely yes, but go & test ride the bike first. Good luck!

A cheaper option may just be to change the cassette to one with a lower range. Typically they have a 25 tooth big gear, swapping to a 28 makes a difference.

Post up more info on the cassette.
