I've got to that point with my new(ish) bike that it's needed the gears adjusting (It's done 150 miles or so). Gears are slipping across the cassette and it's grinding on the smallest cog. So after a bit of research it would appear that the likeliest issue was the gear cable has stretched a bit so I tried using the barrel screw at the back of the mech to take the slack up but it barely turns (1 1/2 turns max) before the screw appears to come out of the housing or feels fully screwed in.
How many turns has it supposed to have? (It's a shimano 2300 BTW).
Worse, after having a go, it now appears that the derailleur won't drop down to the lowest cog and looks like it's been knocked out of alignment even though all I've done it try to turn the cable adjustment screw. Where do I go from here apart from down to the LBS?
TIA
Tony.
