Gear shifting and gear shift levers

Hi guys I have just brought a Specialized Allez Sport (2011) MINT condition bike...

I'm normally a MTB guy Specialized RockHopper SL Pro (2010 all so mint)

Anyway the road bike has the STI levers the older style with the gear drop up high a little trigger rather than the newer style with it behind the lower brake lever..........What new style levers can I replace the old ones with (double crank rings not triple)

The new Sora style ones ? a direct swoop ?
105 's ???

Also guys when you move the Main lever to change gear you have to move it a fair way inwards before t will shift gear.......Can this be tightened up so less movement to get it to change gear ????? (exactly 1" of movement of slack on the lever then of course have to push further for the gear change)

It may need a tweek/tune anyway as I have the odd gear (mid range) where some times I have to double tap that little trigger to get it to change or double push on the lever .......Also when try and put it in the lowest gear it sound like its knocking the spokes ( no chain jump or slip tho and when it does change the change is smooth)

any one any ideas on that ?????

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Assuming its 9 speed sora you can do a direct swap for the new sora with the lever that goes behind , same if its 8 speed 2300 can be replaced with 8 speed claris .afaik you can do anything about the amount you need to move the lever.
Another option is microshift levers which are compatible with shimano .

All u can do is adjust cable tension correctly that should sort the woofly feel of the lever - and it sounds like the low limiter needs setting if it is catching spokes that needs sorting before riding it or mech will end up wrapped in wheel. Rear gear adjustment no different to mtb way of doing it.
