I got my new bike on sunday. had a quick ride on it on the night just to get a feel for it and i was warned about the rear gear block might be a tiny bit too high for general riding.
what should i do? get a new block or keep seeing how i get on with it?
by the way, i live in brighton (pretty hilly) and its a specialized allez elite racing bike.

I've found the gear calculator at Sheldon Brown to be invaluable in helping me understand

http://sheldonbrown.com/gears/

Plug in your current specs and see what you get, I use the gear inches as a result option. Then plug in some fanciful specs to see what the alternatives are. Next step is working out what gears you mainly use and where you feel you may be lacking. So far I've found most setups give me plenty of pedal power but some are better than others at the easier end of the range. But I suppose you need to factor in current fitness levels, how much riding you'll be doing, and therefore what your fitness can reasonably be expected to improve to. You may find that getting something setup for your current level is a short term fix as your fitness improves rapidly.
