It's an evil hill, especially as us Norwich folk don't see many proper hills.

It's only 350 metres long (apparently) but increases up to 20% nearer the top.

It's tough to drive up (smelly clutch) let alone cycle.

They are looking for the "greatest hill climber in east anglia".... a bit like looking for the best mountaineer in the Netherlands.

Report and Pics HERE

I was a marshall along with lots of other volunteers from the Norwich cycling community, there was a really good crowd of about 1,500, loads of competitors of varying levels and even some juniors.

The atmosphere there was fantastic, it did feel like one of those TdF mountain finishes (sort of )

Hope this becomes a regular annual event as we could do with some city centre type racing in Norwich, going by the amount of the Lycra Brigade you can see out on a Sunday morning there's certainly the interest.

It was great fun, but I'd have liked it to be slightly longer.

LCCRL (the organisers) investigated all the possibilities and came to the conclusion that Gas Hill was the only option, even though the council was arranging the road closures. I think the main problem is opposition from car drivers - I saw a lot of disruption and cross drivers yesterday afternoon during the 5k run....never mind the fact the Lord Mayor's Procession followed it! There are only really two places for crits: around the castle, and around City Hall (tight turn at Pedal Revolution). The problem with both of them is that access to the Castle Mall car park or the Fire and Police stations are compromised for an hour or two.

To be honest I didn't really notice the crowd when racing, although the encroachment down the right hand side could have caused problems. I yelled MOVE at one photographer who had his legs sticking out on my 3rd run....nearly compromised my path to the final

Sorry to revive a old thread

I took this shot - a couple of people thought that the person in the shot might want a copy - I realise it's a long shot, but does anyone know whonthis chap is?

That's Chris Guy - he won the 56 mile VC Norwich road race 2 days later with a 2-up break virtually from the start.

I've got his email address somewhere at home. Have you got any other pics?

that would be great! Or if that fails (and if you know him personaly) point him in the direction of this thread

And yes, have loads of pics, but most are not that great - was taken with a new lens, and it was also the first time Iv shot anything that moves...So the keep rate of good images was not that high.

If your intrested, I could have a look and see if I have any shots of you (though I dont know what you look like) - I cant garantee ill have any, or the shots will be any good (I was only there for about an hour or so) but Im happy to look
