If the batteries came from the same batch there is a possibilty they were oldstock/defective.
Try the batteries in another device and see if it works.
I would be inclined to try another set of batteries from a different source in your Garmin and see how it goes.

Edit to say this is general advice for battery powered apparatus, I don't know anything about cadence sensors.

A) Start from scratch and set it up as instructed including pairing it with the Garmin head unit.
B) Check that the line on the crank arm magnet lines up with the line on the sensor.
C) Check that the magnet is close enough to the sensor to trigger it.
D) If all is working, go ride it.

When it stops working again,

E) Check nothing has moved.

It is possible you have knocked the sensor or magnet and it has moved (done it a few times myself) then while replacing the battery you have nudged it back into position.

As Rob3rt re set the cadence by pressing the button - turn the cranks it should flash red and green
then rescan on your garmin

been having to do that a lot

get a strip of rare earth magnets off ebay and stick one (itll just stick on its own as theyre hugely powerful) to the end of your pedal spindle (if its ferrous). It solved all sorts of alignment problems for me and only cost me about £2..

it also avoids any unsightly ties as well.
