Well, I consider it cheating...
So, I'm going along on my extended route home today, and running against the Virtual Partner, who is following my previous best time over the same route - course was created from the track produced by the same Garmin device. I gain a minute lead on him as I set out, and watch him slowly clawing it back, to the point I think "hes got me" when I start pulling slowly away from him again, slowly but consistently.
I'm heading home and I've built up my lead to a comfortable 2 minutes 12 seconds reported - I forget the miles, about a third to a half a mile ahead, and I'm gliding easily into my road when about 10 metres from my drive...
"doodly doodly doo [sad noise] Your virtual training partner has finished, you lose".
I was so close to the finish point I thought maybe it had just played the wrong soundtrack, but getting inside, the "doodly doodly doo" was actually correct. I lost to my best time by four seconds which would account to it beeping when I'm about ten metres away.
So why, why, why did it report for the entire last third of the ride that I was pulling away, extending my 'lead'? I could have pushed a little harder if I knew I was four seconds (FOUR SECONDS DAMN YOU) off my best time!
Ok, so its just a bit of fun on the way home, and I'm not really bothered (FOUR BLOODY SECONDS), but I wondered if anyone else had come up against this distinct unsportsman like behaviour in their VP, and found out what caused it and how to fix it?
The ride seems to have recorded correctly - the GPX track follows the correct route with no deviation, start time and finish time about where I'd expect them to be - it just simply lied to me throughout my ride about me being in front!
